BROCKTON − The case against Lindsay Clancy is moving closer to a trial date.
Clancy is charged with murder in the deaths of her three young children at the Duxbury home she shared with her husband, Patrick, on Jan. 24, 2023.
A brief status update on the case was held in Brockton Superior Court on Friday.
During the hearing, Plymouth County Assistant District Attorney Amanda Fowle updated Judge William Sullivan on the status of a pending DNA test of a cheek swab taken from Clancy several months ago. Whether there is a specific purpose behind the swab other than general evidence collecting has not been revealed.
Fowle said the state DNA testing lab has the sample in its queue, but she noted that the wait line is long.
Being able to set a trial date for the case would put the DNA sample higher on the priority list, Fowle said. During the last court date in May, the wait time was estimated at three to six months.
Both Fowle and Clancy's attorney, Kevin Reddington, said other elements of the case were progressing to the point where setting a trial date may be on the horizon.
The next case update is scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27.

Unsealed search warrants and other documents detailed that Clancy kept journals of her prescriptions for depression as well her feelings in general.
Among those entries were references to self-harm as well as expressions of wanting to harm her children, Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, 8 months.
Cora and Dawson died in the home. Callan was still alive when paramedics found him severely injured the night of the slayings. He died at Boston Children's Hospital a short time later.
Clancy is charged with three counts each of murder and strangulation.
The chief medical examiner said the children died of asphyxia. Exercise bands were used to strangle them, authorities said. Bands were collected from the home, according to police records.
Where is Lindsay Clancy now?
Clancy is being held without bail at Tewksbury Hospital. She has waived her appearance at the hearings since her September 2023 indictment. She is likely to continue doing so. She suffered debilitating nerve damage the night of her children's deaths.
