BRODHEAD — Senior guards Andrew Altermatt and Karim Cisse combined to score 32 points as Jefferson's boys basketball team eked out a 62-61 overtime win at Brodhead in Rock Valley play Friday.

Altermatt hit four 3-pointers en route to a career-high 18 points. Cisse also buried four 3s in his 14-point game, which established a new career best.

"Brodhead packed it in on us," Jefferson boys basketball coach Jacob Marshall said. "We couldn't really get to the rim or get many paint touches so we decided to let it fly."

Altermatt hit a 3 to give the Eagles a 48-44 lead with 4 minutes, 35 seconds left in regulation. Brodhead's Nathan Engen finished through contact with 1:08 left, adding a bonus free throw with 58 seconds left to get within 50-49. The Cardinals' Brady Riese made it 51-all on a layup with 40 seconds to go. Brodhead then missed a pair of mid-range jumpers in the waning seconds, forcing the extra session.

Jefferson junior guard Finn DeBlare, who added 12 points, put back a miss to give the visitors a 55-53 lead with 1:28 to go.

Brodhead's Cullen Walker, who led all scorers with 24 points en route to reaching 1,000 career points, splashed home a corner 3, giving the Cardinals (8-9, 5-5 in conference) the lead with 1:03 left.

DeBlare finished at the rim for the go-ahead basket with 52 seconds remaining. After a Brodhead turnover in the backcourt, Altermatt hit two free throws with 31.7 seconds to go.

Brodhead converted two putback buckets sandwiched around a bonus free throw by Eagles senior guard Aidan Kammer. Altermatt then hit two more free throws with 7.5 left before Walker hit a deep 3 at the buzzer for the final margin.

"We got back to pressuring the ball and making them uncomfortable," Marshall said. "Brodhead would set a middle ball screen and we made it a point not to let them get comfortable using that. They did get downhill a few times when we miscommunicated. We were able to box out and secure rebounds pretty effectively tonight."

Brodhead will travel to Cambridge on Tuesday.
