    Brodhead ace Ava Risum earns WFSCA All-State First Team

    Junior pitcher Ava Risum of Brodhead earned First Team honors on the 2024 Wisconsin Fastpitch Softball Coaches Association All-State Division 2-3 Team.

    Risum led the 19-5 Cardinals to the Rock Valley Conference-Rock Division championship and their second straight appearance in the WIAA D-3 state tournament. The Rock Division Pitcher of the Year, she dominated in the sectional. Brodhead downed Poynette 3-1 as she allowed just four hits and an earned run with 10 strikeouts and then dispatched Adams-Friendship 8-0 behind Risum’s four-hitter and 17 strikeouts.

    The Cardinals ultimately fell to Prescott 4-1 in the state semifinals.

    Brodhead senior shortstop Sophia Leitzen and Clinton junior pitcher Ashley Theisen earned All-State Second Team honors and Beloit Turner senior shortstop Kamdyn Davis and sophomore catcher Maddy Hoenig were awarded Honorable Mention.

    Leitzen is committed to Division II Minnesota State University to play softball while Turner’s Davis will play Division I hockey at the University of Minnesota-Duluth. Risum has verbally committed to Division I Lindenwood University for softball.

    Risum, Theisen, Leitzen, Davis, Hoenig and outfielder Jaelyn Hilliard of Brodhead all earned WFCSA All-District 3 First Team honors.
