Pets, cyclists join diabetes awareness event in downtown Lena
LENA, Ill. (WIFR) - Dozens of families and furry friends join the Lena Lions Club to spread health awareness and engage in family fun. On Saturday, an estimated 100 people signed in to participate in the second annual Lena Lions Bike and Pet Parade. According to club staff, the event hopes to bring awareness to diabetes and encourage community members of all ages to keep active.
Freeport police investigate shots fired report leaving 1 hurt
FREEPORT, Ill. (WIFR) - A teenager on Freeport’s east side is hurt from a shots fired report early Saturday morning. Just after midnight on July 20, Freeport officers were alerted to a shots fired report in the area of Frank Street and Chicago Avenue. The police were also notified about a 17-year-old male victim who was transported to FHN Hospital with a gunshot wound. The victim was treated and later discharged.
Seward residents clean up storm debris
SEWARD, Ill. (WIFR) - The streets of Seward are eerie as debris from this week’s storms litter roads and yards. On Thursday, the north side of the village got power back, but the south side is still without. On top of no power, the residents don’t have running water. “Everyone is just getting a little worn out of this. We have been hauling limbs and cleaning things up but I don’t think we’re halfway there,” says village resident Andy Conover. “It’s really been stressing on the community ‘cause we have had no electricity and just a disaster of trees everywhere. Far more tree damage than we have seen in a lot of years.”
