9th annual Kristin Chenoweth Broadway Bootcamp held in Broken Arrow

BROKEN ARROW, Okla. — Dozens of students are getting ready to hit center stage for the production they’ve been working on at the ninth annual Kristin Chenoweth Broadway Bootcamp.

Setting the stage for the spotlight. That’s exactly what Kristin Chenoweth’s Broadway Bootcamp does.

“We all signed up for hard, hard work. That’s why it’s called a bootcamp. You wake up and go to bed thinking about the project, and you’re all exhausted by the time the show happens. Happily so,” said Lara Teeter.

Teeter is the Co-director this year. He says Kristin is a gift being sprinkled into everyone at her camp. It’s her passion to pave the way for others and prepare them for the future of the arts.

“She is training the future leaders, visionaries and creators of this industry,” said Teeter.

This year's bootcamp includes 65 students from 21 states and six different countries.

Mia Ferraretto is from South Australia, and this is her second KCBBC.

“There’s such a strong focus on the self and bringing it back to why are we here in the first place, what do we have in common, we all love the theater and love each other, and you look around there’s no judgement from anyone. I’m literally getting chills thinking about it,” said Mia.

They rehearse 12 hours a day, working on music and choreography. All leading up to a show for the community. This year’s production is a tribute to their icon, Kristen Chenoweth.

“We have a fun little song as our opener, it’s very much a tribute to Kristin and people who know the song will love it,” said Bailee Washington of Broken Arrow.

The show will feature various roles from Kristin’s career, including things from Broadway and TV.

“It’s just so crazy to look at all these numbers and be like, in awe of all the things she’s done and how she’s brought herself into everything. You watch something and you’re like oh that’s so Kristin,” said Mia.

Even though this year Kristin couldn’t be here in person because she’s premiering her new musical, everyone says it’s as if she’s there.

“Even though she’s not here, her spirit is felt so strongly here through everyone,” said Mia.

The show is Saturday at 7 at the Broken Arrow Performing Arts Center. It is free but you will need a ticket.
