NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) — As of Saturday, Bronx residents crossing over the Henry Hudson Bridge will receive a 100% instant rebate when driving with an E-ZPass New York tag.

Residents must be driving a car legally registered to a Bronx address, and the program has been extended to zip codes 10466, 10470 and 10471. The rebate currently covers the full $3.18 toll, the MTA said.

Assemblyman Jeff Dinowitz, who represents the North and Northwest Bronx, has been pushing for this measure for years.

“The Henry Hudson Bridge is one of the shortest bridges there is in the entire city, and it seemed absurd that people had to pay a toll for it. People complained all the time,” Dinowitz told News12 in an interview regarding the toll rebate.

When translated to numbers, the impact on commuters is notable.

“Some people have to cross the bridge every day, back and forth, that’s $1,500 a year. Some people, if they have a child who goes to school in Manhattan, they go back and forth twice, that’s double,” Dinowitz said.

The MTA said that eligible residents will receive a letter notifying them if they qualify for the program.

“I’m almost tempted to go out and cross the bridge, just to enjoy it,” Dinowitz jested.

Coming this month, a similar program will begin for Queens residents for the Cross Bay Bridge, the MTA said. The rebate will similarly cover the entire $2.60 toll for those who qualify.

More information about the rebate programs can be found on the MTA website, here .
