The reason why the Yankees, short on bullpen depth, optioned LHP Anthony Misiewicz back to Triple-A after Wednesday night’s game is now clear: the team announced Thursday morning they have signed LHP Tim Hill to a Major League contract and added him to the active roster.

To make room on the 40-man roster, the Yankees designated LHP Clayton Andrews for assignment.

Hill, 34, signed a minor-league deal with the White Sox last winter and made 27 relief appearances in Chicago, going 1-0 with a 5.87 ERA and 13 K against 10 BB in 23 innings before being designated for assignment on June 12 and released on Tuesday.

Originally a 32 nd -round pick of the Royals in 2014, Hill has a 4.30 ERA in 278 1/3 innings over 347 career relief appearances with the Royals, Padres, and White Sox.

In addition, per Yankees PR, Hill’s 29.9 inherited runners scored percentage since 2018 ranks 10th among Major League relievers in that time, and his 347 appearances are the sixth-most among left-handed relievers.
