C-Mac: Time for Gleyber Torres to step up with Giancarlo Stanton out

With Giancarlo Stanton set to miss a month of action with a hamstring strain, the Yankees desperately need someone other than Aaron Judge and Juan Soto to step up and help carry the offensive load.

Anthony Volpe has cooled down after a torrid stretch atop the lineup. Alex Verdugo is mired in a brutal slump. Even Soto has cooled off, although the walks are still there. DJ LeMahieu looks nowhere close to his old self since returning from a foot fracture.

So, who can step up and get the Yanks back on track? C-Mac is looking at Gleyber Torres.

“I know Gleyber Torres is almost a dirty word at this point. Everyone wants him off the team,” C-Mac said. “Gleyber Torres is off to a terrible start offensively…but I think the best of his year is yet to come. I don’t expect him to have the worst year of his career at age 27.”

Torres has had an awful contract year, but last year, he was the team’s best bat outside of Judge, and C-Mac believes that bat is still there, and there is no better time than right now for Torres to finally get it going.

“It’s something that can make up for the loss of Giancarlo Stanton, and something that can help this team immensely,” C-Mac said. “As much as I’ve told you that I don’t know if he’s a winning player…but if you look at his numbers last year, when Aaron Judge wasn’t around all that time, and they needed someone to step up and be their best player…Gleyber Torres was a very competent, borderline All-Star type of player.”
