New York Yankees could trade for former All-Star in unexpected blockbuster

With the MLB Trade Deadline one month away, the New York Yankees have been dominating the conversations and blockbuster deal proposals.

The latest proposal comes from The Athletic where Chris Kirschner, Jim Bowden and Brendan Kuty discussed several potential trade scenarios involving the Yankees.

One of them comes involves the Yankees adding former All-Star second baseman and centerfielder Jazz Chisholm Jr. of the Miami Marlins in exchanged for some big pieces.

In this hypothetical deal, the Yankees gave up starter Nestor Cortes, right-handed pitcher Brock Selvidge and shortstop prospect Roderick Arias.

Chisholm hasn't played at the All-Star level he enjoyed during the 2022 season when he had an .860 OPS and 138 OPS+ in 60 games before a stress fracture in his back forced him to miss the entire second half of the season.

Chisholm moved to centerfield in 2023 and has played there since. However, his added versatility at both spots would certainly intrigue the Yankees considering it would help alleviate Aaron Judge at one of the game's most demanding positions.

Chisholm hasn't reached that level of success at the plate since his All-Star season, which brings about some concern.

He's been roughly league-average with a 100 and 109 OPS+ in 2023 and 2024, respectively. He's 26 years old and is arbitration-eligible through the 2026 season.

The Yankees have been a popular team when it comes to trade deadline proposals so Chisholm's name now must be added to the list.
