NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) — An on-duty MTA worker was assaulted by a passenger exiting the Bronx bus he was operating on Saturday evening, and police are searching for the suspect.

The 28-year-old man was driving a BX3 MTA bus south on University Avenue, near the West 183rd Street stop in University Heights, at about 7:30 p.m. when he was attacked.

The suspect was trying to get off of the vehicle when he punched and spat on the bus operator.

He then ran off in an unknown direction, police said.

The victim suffered minor injuries to his body and was taken to NewYork-Presbyterian Allen Hospital for medical evaluation.

The MTA deferred a request for comment to the NYPD.

There have been no arrests and the investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
