    Bronx residents brace for next round of extreme heat

    Bronx residents are now facing their third heat wave of the summer after Monday's temperatures reach the 90s. Mayor Eric Adams spoke this morning at news conference in Brooklyn, addressing the extreme heat putting some residents at risk of getting sick or dying from heat related illnesses. "The greatest risk of heat related illness and death in our city is not having air conditioning at home,” said Carolyn Olson, assistant commissioner for Environmental Surveillance & Policy at NYC’s Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. “So, access to residential cooling is one of the major factors that contributes to differences in heat risk across our city and for individuals." In the Baychester section of the Bronx, city data shows 17% of residents don’t have air conditioning in their homes.
