Yankees trade target has 'very high' chance to be dealt before deadline

The New York Yankees may have a strong chance to acquire a star relief pitcher ahead of the trade deadline.

According to Jon Heyman of The Post , Miami Marlins star closer Tanner Scott has a "very high" chance to be dealt before the MLB trade deadline on July 30.

This could be good news for the Yankees, who desperately need to upgrade the arms in the bullpen, especially on the left side of the mound.

Scott would be an ideal target for the Yankees even if he's going to be a half-year rental for whichever team decides to trade for him.

Current closer Clay Holmes was named an All-Star, but he also leads the American League with six blown saves coming out of the break.

Having Scott available to throw in high-leverage situations late in games would alleviate some of the pressure that Holmes faces to be a shutdown closer.

Considering Scott is headed for free agency after this season, the Yankees wouldn't have to sell the farm in order to acquire him.

The 30-year-old has a 1.30 ERA in 41.2 innings to go along with 46 strikeouts, 25 walks and a 1.03 WHIP. He may be due for a bit of regression considering his expected ERA is 3.10, but he possesses the type of strikeout stuff the Yankees need in the bullpen.

If the Yankees want to make a run in the second half and put a miserable month behind them, acquiring Scott might be among the moves they have to make.
