Gio: Fans want Aaron Boone to call out his players, but what would that accomplish?

As the Yankees continue to slide, pressure mounts from the fanbase for Aaron Boone to call out his group and hopefully send a jolt through the clubhouse to have more of a sense of urgency.

But Gio wants to know what the manager can do when nearly his entire lineup and starting rotation are simply not performing.

“People keep pointing to these things, ‘Aaron Boone has to get these guys fired up!’ ‘Aaron Judge has to get in these guys’ faces in the dugout.’ What is that gonna do when these guys stink?” Gio said. “There are guys that are done!

“Give me a case that Alex Verdugo, Trent Grisham, DJ LeMahieu, Austin Wells…make me a case that they are going to catch fire and make this lineup deeper. I’m sorry, but you’re just going on blind faith if you believe that.”

Jerry agrees that the Yankee problems run much deeper than the manager, and doesn’t see how a public bashing or a change from the norm of positivity will suddenly make ineffective hitters and pitchers reverse course.

“They’ve got a rotation that is essentially a toss-up,” Jerry said. “It’s really remarkable, when you look at that lineup…when you look at what comes up after Soto and Judge…no disrespect, but Austin Wells is your cleanup hitter? You can take your OPS and shove it where the sun don’t shine, because he’s batting .210.”
