The Yankees were playing with a heavy heart on Monday after Rachel Minaya, the wife of team executive Omar Minaya, died on Saturday at the age of 55 .

Before a 9-1 win over the Rays at Yankee Stadium, the team held a moment of silence for Rachel Minaya , who was found dead at the family’s home in Harrington Park, N.J.

“I think we’re all heartbroken,” manager Aaron Boone said after the game while getting choked up.

Boone said he had not yet been able to speak with Omar Minaya, the former Mets GM who joined the organization before the 2023 season as a special adviser to GM Brian Cashman.

“It’s very hard,” Boone said. “My heart goes out to O and his family and the situation. I don’t want to get too far into it, just because I haven’t even talked to O about it yet.”

Before the national anthem in The Bronx on Monday, public address announcer Paul Olden asked for a moment of silence while Rachel Minaya’s picture was shown on the scoreboard.

“The Yankees are devastated to learn of the passing of Rachel Minaya, the wife of Yankees Baseball Operations Senior Advisor Omar Minaya.

To those closest to her, she was a loving and compassionate mother and wife, and a huge supporter of her family and loved ones.

“In a very short time, Omar has become a beloved member of the Yankees organization, where he regularly displays his unique ability to connect with people of diverse backgrounds. Over the course of his distinguished career in the game, he has freely given to others with kindness and friendship, and in this unthinkable time, we offer Omar, his sons Justin and Teddy, and their family and friends our profound condolences. His family is an extension of the baseball family, and this is a loss that is deeply felt among all of us.”

Omar Minaya was not home at the time of his wife’s death.

Officers from the Harrington Park Police Department went to the Minaya home on Saturday afternoon following a request for a welfare check from a neighbor/family friend, according to police chief Robert Murphy.

Cops found Rachel Minaya unconscious when they arrived and attempted to resuscitate her before transporting her via ambulance to Hackensack Meridian Health Pascack Valley Medical Center in Westwood, where she was pronounced dead.

Bergen County prosecutor Mark Musella on Monday announced that his office had opened an investigation into Rachel Minaya’s death.

“The circumstances involved do not appear suspicious, however a ruling on the cause and manner of death is pending,” Musella’s office said in a press release. “Additional details are not available for release while this investigation continues.”

When he was asked about suicide being ruled out, Murphy said: “Nothing has been ruled out yet. That’s where we’re at. It’s up in the air.”

“All of us in the Mets organization are deeply saddened by the passing of Rachel Minaya, the wife of former Mets GM and current Yankees executive Omar Minaya,” Mets radio broadcaster Howie Rose wrote Monday in a post on X. “He’s one of the most beloved people in baseball and our hearts go out to Omar and his sons Justin and Teddy. RIP.”

The Minayas have two adult sons, Justin and Teddy. Justin is a forward with the Portland Trail Blazers and has been playing for their summer league team this month in Las Vegas.

“We were tremendously saddened to learn of Rachel Minaya’s passing,” Mets owner Steve Cohen and his wife Alex wrote in a statement. “Omar had a substantial impact on our organization and his wife, Rachel, was always by his side every step of the way. The Minayas have been dear friends of ours for years and we extend our deepest condolences to Omar’s entire family and loved ones.”

This marks the second tragedy the Yankees have dealt with this season.

Just before Opening Day, Cathy Tusiani, the wife of senior vice president of partnerships Michael Tusiani, died when her car was hit by a falling tree during a storm in Armonk.
