Gio: Stop wondering if Yankees will fire Aaron Boone in season

Many fans are calling for Aaron Boone’s job after the Yankees were once again bludgeoned by the Mets on Wednesday night, but Gio hasn’t changed his stance from earlier in this extended malaise.

The Yankees could make a change at manager, but it likely won’t make much of a difference, as the key problems lie within the roster.

“He does this to kind of appease the fanbase occasionally, and because he’s a flatliner and the fans want something out of them, but there’s nothing he can do to change this team at this point,” Gio said after listening to some rare emotion out of Boone in Wednesday’s postgame press conference. “The laziness at times and the lack of focus, I’m sure he’s addressed that. It’s up to the players to be professionals and to figure it out.”

Even as things go from bad to worse in the Bronx, Gio doesn’t believe the mindset from the front office has changed. This regime with Brian Cashman as GM has never fired a manager during the season, and Gio doesn’t believe that’s going to change now.

“Anyone who thinks Aaron Boone is gonna be fired this morning, he’s not gonna be fired,” Gio said. “I don’t try that anymore because he’s not gonna be fired.”
