People who live near Sexton Place and Wickham Avenue say the trash buildup has become a serious problem over the past six months. They tell News 12 that the Department of Sanitation comes to clean about every two weeks, but as soon as they leave, the trash piles up again. These residents are accusing unknown illegal dumpers of unloading trucks full of trash onto Sexton Place. They claim they see trucks without license plates doing this and assume they’re removing their license plates to remain undetected. “It makes me sad and upset because this is literally a nice neighborhood. We all get along and whoever's doing this, it's making the neighborhood look really bad,” says Candice Marcus, who’s lived in the Baychester neighborhood for more than 50 years. She and her fellow neighbors say they’re frustrated with the bad smell, and the bugs and rodents the trash attracts. Neighbors say they wish there were cameras installed so these illegal dumpers could be held accountable. The Department of Sanitation says they’re aware that illegal dumpers frequent this area and are working regularly to keep it clean. They also mention they’ve increased surveillance citywide to catch these people and keep trash off our city’s streets. "
