Yankees acquire Jazz Chisholm in trade with Marlins to bolster lineup

BOSTON — The Yankees are on the board, bringing some Jazz to a lineup in need of help.

The club is acquiring outfielder/second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. in a trade with the Marlins, The Post’s Jon Heyman and Joel Sherman confirmed Saturday.

The Yankees were sending back catching prospect Agustin Ramirez and minor league infielders Jared Serna and Abrahan Ramirez.

It was not immediately clear how the Yankees planned to use Chisholm — manager Aaron Boone would not specifically comment on the trade because it was not yet official when he spoke to reporters two hours before facing the Red Sox at Fenway Park on Saturday night — but it could be in a versatile role, perhaps even introducing him to third base.

“Very talented, athletic, speed, power,” Boone said of Chisholm. “Seems like versatility, he can play a lot of different places. I’ve only seen him from afar but, obviously, a very talented young player.”

Chisholm, a left-handed hitter who is under team control through 2026, is a natural shortstop who moved to second base and then center field last season, though he had recently started playing second base again.

The Yankees have a bigger hole at third base than second, since the right-handed hitting Gleyber Torres has started to come out of a brutal slump over the last few weeks.

The Yankees could also mix Chisholm in at center field, which once Giancarlo Stanton returns from the injured list Monday, could bump Aaron Judge to left field in place of the scuffling Alex Verdugo.

It’s also possible the Yankees have more moves coming before Tuesday’s trade deadline that will make Chisholm’s lane for playing time more obvious.

Aside from his defensive home, Chisholm could be a solution to the Yankees’ hole at the leadoff spot.

He is batting .249 with a .730 OPS, 22 steals and 13 home runs this season and the Yankees entered Saturday having their leadoff hitters bat just .226 with a .643 OPS this season in front of Juan Soto and Judge.

Chisholm, a 26-year-old native of the Bahamas, arrives with a reputation for having rubbed some teammates the wrong way in the past.

But the Yankees believe their clubhouse is strong enough for that not to become an issue — as they have shown in bringing in Verdugo and Marcus Stroman last offseason.

“I do feel like our clubhouse is always strong,” Boone said. “We’ve got a really good presence in there from our captain [Judge], but on down to the other players and our staff that does a really good job of making sure it’s a rock-solid room year in and year out. I feel that way this year too.”

In the more immediate future, the Yankees hope the addition of Chisholm might provide a spark for a team that entered Saturday in the midst of a 10-23 skid after starting the year 50-22.

“It definitely can be a shot of energy for guys,” Boone said of trade deadline additions in past years. “But whatever happens or doesn’t happen, we’ll be through this time in a few days and then you know what you’re going with and it’s, ‘Let’s go get it done.’ ”

Agustin Ramirez, 22, was in the midst of a breakout season in the minors, though he had slowed down upon being promoted to Triple-A.

In 58 games at Double-A Somerset, he hit .290 with 16 home runs and a .942 OPS before being bumped up to Triple-A, where he was hitting .224 with four home runs and a .693 OPS in 29 games.

Serna, 22, is a middle infielder who was batting .253 with a .785 OPS at High-A Hudson Valley.

Abrahan Ramirez, 19, is a second baseman/third baseman/left fielder who was batting .348 with a .960 OPS in 49 games for the Yankees’ rookie-level FCL team.
