6 men shot while hanging out under scaffolding in the Bronx; investigation underway

An investigation is underway after six people were shot in the Bronx on Wednesday.

Police responded to East 190th Street and Morris Avenue around 8:15 p.m. for reports of a group of men struck by gunfire.

NYPD officials say several people were hanging out underneath a scaffolding at the location when two males riding scooters, one with a helmet and one without, came through St. James Park.

The two males parked the scooters in the park, went up the stairs and then fired nine shots at the group of men under the scaffolding.

Six men were struck by gunfire -- five of which were men in their 20s, and one man in his early 30s. Each victim was shot in a different part of their body.

All the victims are expected to survive.

When police arrived at the scene, they found two victims. Officials say two other victims left the scene in a vehicle and flagged down EMS, who took them to a nearby hospital.

The last two victims walked into two separate hospitals, one in the Bronx and one in Queens.

No further details have been provided, and there's no word yet what led up to the shooting.

Police say it's unknown if the shooting was gang related.

The investigation is ongoing.
