    Beloit Memorial hockey team wins WIAA regional opener

    BROOKFIELD, Wis. — Beloit Memorial’s boys hockey team outscored Marquette 4-1 in the second period on its way to a 7-4 victory in its WIAA regional opener at Eble Ice Arena Tuesday night.

    The 11th-seeded Purple Knights trailed 2-1 after the first period as Luke Loew and Mick Kaminsky scored for Marquette and Logan Tysse scored for Beloit on an assist by Drake Juhl.

    The Hilltoppers went up 3-1 to open the second period, but Beloit scored four unanswered goals in the period. Brayden Lane got it rolling with assists from Preston Mayberry and Dylan Naugle. Nathan Fiebig made it 3-3 with Tysse and Nathan Anastasi contributing assists.

    Marcus Allen put Beloit on top 4-3 with an unassisted goal at 13:37 and Fiebig tacked on his second goal of the period at 14:37 with Anastasi assisting again.

    The Hilltoppers closed within 5-4 as Murphy Montral scoured 21 seconds into the period, but they didn’t score again. Beloit’s Anastasi scored off an assist from Cole Rowald at 3:12 and Fiebig got his hat trick at 16:22 into an empty net with Lane picking up an assist.

    Beloit outshot Marquette 28-21. Winning goalie Gentry Grant had 17 saves. Marquette’s Mack Langermann had 21.

    The Knights collected seven penalties for 10 minutes while Marquette was whistled for five for 16.

    Beloit will play No. 3 Kettle Moraine at 7 p.m. Thursday at the naga-Waukee Ice Arena in Delafield.
