Brookhaven School District has updated its dress codes. The 2024-2025 Handbook will be distributed during the first week of school. Below are some of the key updates.
Bottoms/Pants
- No holes, rips, tears or patches
- Shorts, skirts, skorts and dresses must be within 4 inches above the knee or longer
- No leggings, yoga pants, jeggings, biker shorts, or pajamas
- Pants cannot be excessively baggy or tight
Tops/Shirts
- No crop tops
- No tight fitting or oversized shirts
- No tank tops
- No inappropriate, vulgar, racial, or gang-related designs or logos
- Short or long sleeve t-shirts, polos, or button-down shirts can be worn
Accessories
- Solid white, black, navy or gray 2-inch or smaller headbands may be worn
- No bandanas
- No blankets
- No sunglasses, hats, or other headgear
- Tattoos or other body markings deemed inappropriate must be covered at all times
- Only headwear approved by school administration for religious reasons or special school activities are permitted
- School-issued student ID badges are required to be worn by all students while on campus or at school-sanctioned events
Jackets/Heavy Coats
- No dusters/long/trench-type coats
- An appropriate top must be worn under the outerwear
Sweatshirts/Hoodies/Sweaters
- Same guidelines as tops/shirts
- No hoods should be worn inside the buildings
Hair
- Hair should not be a distraction
- It should be properly groomed and maintained
Shoes
- Shoes must be worn at all times
- No house slippers or slides — the heel of the foot must be secured by the shoe
Compliance or non-compliance with the dress code will be determined by the school administrators. Students who dress in a manner determined to be out of compliance with the dress code will receive consequences as listed in the new student handbook.
