Brooklyn Center Centaurs and Robbinsdale Cooper Hawks both took part in the Tri-Metro Conference wrestling meet last week, with the Centaurs earning two first-place finishes in the 145 and 285 weight classes.

    Brooklyn Center

The Brooklyn Center-Concordia Academy co-op finished third at the meet with 158 total points.

Andreas Adamsson (145) was one of two champions for BCCA last week, carving his way to the first-place match, where he defeated Philip Phan of Kennedy on a 5-2 decision. Adamsson’s previous two matches ended in falls.

Chyance Henry (285) also finished first, receiving a quarterfinal bye and winning by fall in the semfinal to set up a win over William Storm of Kennedy in the first-place match.

Obadiah Tyson (114) came second in his weight class, earning 20 points with a run to the first-place match where he lost by fall over to Fridley’s Edgar Sanchez.

Timothy Hubers (152) also finished second, making his way to the first-place match where he lost by fall over to Spectrum’s Addan Schmidt.

Jacob Hexum (189) finished third in his weight class, falling in his quarterfinal before collecting a bye and a win on the mat in the consolation semifinal to make the third-place match against Jordan Akkerman of Fridley, which he won by fall.

Four more Hawks reached third-place matches and fell short to earn fourth place in their weight class including Niall Griffis (121), Jack States (127), Byron Hawkins (172), and Joshua Lay (215).

    Robbinsdale Cooper

The Cooper Hawks finished seventh at the meet with 40 points.

Vojteck Anderle (160) was Cooper’s top performer at the meet, finishing second and scoring 20 points, half of the team’s haul. Anderle won his quarterfinal and semifinal with fall overs over Columbia Height’s Mohamed Omer and Fridley’s Marcquist Holiday, before losing to Brooklyn Center’s Adamsson in the first-place match.

Conrad Ansorge (107) placed fifth after losing by fall over in the quarterfinals and powering through the consolation rounds. He received the fifth-place spot itself through a bye.

Marco Duran (285) finished in third with 12 points, losing by a major decision to Bloomington Kennedy’s William Storm in the semifinals. He defeated Spectrum’s Henry Christopherson in the third-place match.

A’Montae Ford (189) placed sixth, concluding his tournament with a major decision loss to Yandiel Cardona Gonzalez of Columbia Heights.

Cooper were also represented by Folake Olusesi in the girls portion of the day. Olusei won her category at the conference meet and qualified for state last weekend.

The Section 5AA wrestling team meet will take place on Feb. 17 at Totino-Grace, while the individual tournament will be on Feb. 25 at Kennedy.
