All three varsity baseball teams in the Brooklyn Park/Brooklyn Center coverage area were busy last week with their final games of the 2024 regular season.

    PCM

Park Center/Columbia Heights/Maranatha Christian Academy opened last week with a 3-2 win over Armstrong on May 20, a statement of intent ahead of the coming section tournament.

The Pirates opened the scoring early on after an RBI single by Jose Mendoza Garcia helped Ty Lovcik reach home plate to make it 1-0. Beau Bratsch then hit an RBI double in the top of the fifth to get Nevan Johnson, who also went 5-for-5, home. Lovcik played the support soon after, hitting an RBI single for Adam Aasen to make it 3-0. Luke Weisjahn and Jack Welters scored in the bottom of the sixth for Armstrong to keep tensions high, but Lovcik was dominant on the mound when it mattered most, pitching PCM out of trouble.

    Champlin Park

Champlin Park played two non-conference opponents last week, starting with a 2-1 win over Chanhassen at home on May 20. The Rebels then hit the road to travel to Duluth, where they lost 10-3 on May 22 to Marshall. Ty McGee, Caleb Greer and Rhys George scored Champlin Park’s runs. The Rebels ended the regular season on May 23, playing Rogers in a rescheduled game. Rogers won 2-0.

    Brooklyn Center

Brooklyn Center played Mounds Park Academy on May 20 for their last game of the regular season, falling 16-5 to their non-conference opponent. Both Byron Hawkins and Jesus Anzaldo Lopez had one run and an RBI in the game. Emmanuel Seward and Chris Horton hit one RBI each, while Anders Rydberg, Thomas Alcott, and Dalorian Davis scored one run each. Grant Tenhaeff led from the mound with three strikeouts.

Brooklyn Center got off to an early start in the Section 5AA tournament last week, facing Southwest Christian in a 15-1 loss. The loss ended the season for Brooklyn Center with a 6-8 overall record.
