La Flor on Classon is instantly one of Brooklyn’s best pizzerias
Giancarlo Villa, owner of the spanking new La Flor on Classon near the Brooklyn Museum, has spent a lot of years working in a lot of different pizza places around the city. When Villa was 18 he helped open Pronto Pizza in the Bronx, and then went on to pound the dough in spots you’ve heard of (Roberta’s, Upside) and spots you probably haven’t (Stan’s, Baker’s).

New York City’s Restaurant Week kicks off July 22 for its summer edition and there’s a substantial increase of Brooklyn representation this year. As usual, the “week” actually lasts multiple weeks, beginning this Monday, July 22, and lasting until Sunday, August 18. This year there are 57 participating restaurants (many of which have received Michelin shoutouts), up from the 44 from 2023. While there are several new entrants (including Williamsburg’s Mesiba and Greenpoint’s Lingo), a few past participants — like Harlem Shake and Greenpoint’s MáLà Project — have opted to not return.
