Letitia James booed onstage during FDNY event

New York Attorney General Letitia James was met with boos when coming onstage at a New York Fire Department event Thursday.

The FDNY gathered in a church in Brooklyn, New York, to promote 65 uniformed members, 29 members of the Bureau of Fire Prevention, and 34 civilian employees. As soon as James took the podium the audience booed her, presumably over her recent civil fraud case win against former President Donald Trump .

"Oh, come on, we're in a house of God," James told the crowd. "First, simmer down."

However, the crowd's apparent support for Trump became clearer later during her remarks as some people began chanting the former president's name.

FDNY Chief John Hodgens made it clear that the rowdy reception did not reflect the entire department.

"Today's ceremony was about one thing: the accomplishments of the members being promoted. The members whose behavior distracted from that celebration were an embarrassment and not befitting of the world's best fire department," Hodgens said in a statement.

James's office did not return the Washington Examiner's request for comment.

New York  Supreme Court Justice Arthur Engoron ordered Trump and his Trump Organization to pay more than $350 million in damages as the result of the civil fraud lawsuit filed by James. Additionally, Trump is now not allowed to operate any business in New York for the next three years, per the ruling.
