President, Long Island University

Kimberly R. Cline was named the 10th president of Long Island University in July 2013. She has led the nearly century-old institution through a transformational process to provide students with an exceptional education that emphasizes experiential learning and excellence in teaching and research. Cline’s tenure has cultivated dynamic new schools, centers and high-quality academic programs at LIU, which has campuses in Brookville and Brooklyn.

Under her direction, the university opened the LIU College of Veterinary Medicine, which joined Cornell, Tufts and the University of Pennsylvania as the fourth veterinary college in the Northeast. The Roc Nation School of Music, Sports and Entertainment resulted from a partnership with LIU and entertainment superstar Jay Z, offering talented students prestigious internships and access to top leaders in the sports and entertainment industry. LIU’s Roosevelt School joined with the Society of Presidential Descendants to launch nationally recognized events, including National Civics Day. Under Cline’s watch, LIU has also partnered with Fortune Future 50 company Dassault to become a Center for Excellence in Life Sciences.

Cline has increased HopeScholarshipsforstudentswhohave high financial need and expanded LIU’s Division I athletic program.

A recognized leader in education, Cline previously served as vice chancellor and CFO of the State University of New York, overseeing a $10 billion budget. She is a past chair of the Council of Independent Colleges’ board of trustees and a past member of the board of governors for the Center for Creative Leadership.

Cline holds a Master of Business Administration, Juris Doctor and Doctor of Educational Administration.
