West Coaster Kendrick Lamar Has Been Laying Down Brooklyn Beats with $8.6 Million Penthouse Amid ‘Not Like Us’ Buzz

Kendrick Lamar may be giving props to his Los Angeles hometown of Compton in his trending “Not Like Us” music video, but he now calls Brooklyn home.

Brooklyn real estate is gaining popularity among celebrities, and Lamar is no exception. According to The New York Times, Lamar recently purchased a luxurious four-bedroom, 3.5-bath penthouse in Brooklyn, New York, for $8.6 million.

On Dec. 1, 2023, with the penthouse purchase, Lamar became a resident of part of the Pierhouse in Brooklyn Heights, located at 90 Furman Street. Pierhouse in Brooklyn Heights is considered an exclusive area. It’s known for its luxury residential units with stunning views of the East River, Brooklyn Bridge Park, and lower Manhattan. The neighborhood itself is prestigious, offering a blend of historic charm and modern amenities, making it highly desirable among affluent residents.

According to MarketWatch, The Pierhouse, completed in 2015, offers luxurious duplex condos with a spacious, open layout spanning two levels.

When K.Dot acquired the three-floor penthouse he gained approximately 3,140 square feet of living space, and 2,000 square feet of outdoor space spread over two levels, including a private rooftop with great views of the East River, Brooklyn Bridge Park, and lower Manhattan, according to Robb Report.

The living room is a standout feature, characterized by soaring ceilings and floor-to-ceiling windows. Bedrooms are versatile, with one boasting a mirrored ceiling and others decorated with hardwood floors, suitable for various uses such as bedrooms, home offices, or music rooms.

The chef’s kitchen is a focal point of elegance, featuring bar seating, warm wood cabinets, stainless steel appliances, and expansive windows. The adjacent dining room is appointed with built-in shelving and recessed lighting.

The Pierhouse penthouse was also a subject of discussion in Drake’s diss song against Lamar. Drake referenced Lamar’s Brooklyn penthouse in his diss track “Taylor Made Freestyle.” In the song, Drake rapped: “Dot, I know you’re in that NY apartment, you strugglin’ right now, I know it / In the notepad doing lyrical gymnastics, my boy.”

High-profile celebrities, including Matt Damon, Ethan Hawke, Adam Driver, Zendaya, and Michelle Williams, have presumably invested in Brooklyn real estate for its privacy, more laid-back lifestyle compared to Manhattan, brownstones and historic architecture, and a stronger sense of community comparable to most parts of New York City, according to Street Easy.
