Bushwick families were displaced by a fire early Tuesday morning. MORE: Authorities investigating Bushwick fire as possible arson
A notice to vacate 127 Evergreen Ave. where the fire took place now sits outside of the building. This means tenants are currently unable to retrieve belongings from their homes. Residents tell News 12 that they believe a neighbor set the fire and then prevented them from leaving the building by holding the door. Eleven people suffered injuries, and one of those 11 is fighting for their life, according to officials. "He knew what he was doing, to grab a door and not let any one of the people leave," said Nancy Salas, a sister of one of the residents. "Someone who isn't crazy doesn't do that. We pray he is caught." Any residents who are in need of shelter can call the American Red Cross at 1-877-RED-CROSS (733-2767-7). Police say that no arrests have been made in the case at this time. "
