CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn (PIX11) – A man was shot to death in Brooklyn last Friday after he stepped in to confront a man who “inappropriately touched” a woman, police said.

Dyseem Jackson, 21, was shot and killed at the Albany Houses at 1400 Bergen St. in Crown Heights around 12:15 a.m., according to the NYPD.

Usamah Sidberry, 37, was arrested and charged with second-degree murder in Jackson’s death, police said.

Sidberry was outside the Albany Houses barbecuing when a woman who lives at the housing complex decided to join him, according to police.

“While they are both barbecuing, they start arguing about barbecuing, and at some point [Sidberry] touches the female inappropriately,” NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny said. “They were all very intoxicated. [Sidberry] also indicated that he called his girlfriend who was four hours away and she was going to come and fight her. She never made it to the scene.”

The woman smacked Sidberry, and Jackson stepped in to confront him, according to Kenny.

“Why don’t you leave her alone? She’s a female. Can you step into the lobby so I can speak to you?” the NYPD chief said Jackson told Sidberry.

Surveillance video showed Jackson and Sidberry in a verbal and physical dispute outside of the Albany Houses that spilled into the building lobby, according to Kenny.

“Once they step into the lobby, he kills him,” Kenny said.

Jackson tried to walk away, but Sidberry allegedly pulled out a pistol and shot him from behind, according to police. Jackson was fatally shot in the head, authorities said.

Sidberry was apprehended about an hour later, police said. He was also charged with criminal possession of a weapon.

Jackson and Sidberry both lived at the Albany Houses, police said.
