    Brooklyn’s population is bigger than these US states and European cities

    NEW YORK (PIX11) — Brooklyn is so massive that if it were considered a separate entity, it would be one of the largest cities and states by population alo ne, according to U.S. Census Bureau data .

    Brooklyn is home to more than 2.6 million people. The borough’s population makes it larger than over a dozen states across the U.S.

    Brooklyn’s population would dethrone New Mexico as the 36th-biggest state. “The Land of Enchantment” has 2.1 million residents, according to census data .

    “ Larger than Boston, Atlanta, Washington D.C., and Minneapolis combined, makes it the fastest growing borough in New York,” Brooklyn.org touts on its website.

    According to census data , the borough’s population would dethrone Chicago as the third-biggest city in the U.S.

    Brooklyn’s population outranks other major metros in the U.S.:

    • Philidelphia
    • San Antonio
    • San Diego
    • Dallas
    • Austin
    • San Jose

    The borough is also bigger than some European countries. It would be listed just after Kyviv in Ukraine and is slightly bigger than Italy’s “Eternal City,” Rome, which is home to about 2.3 million people.
