Brooklyn Nets head coach Jordi Fernandez received a huge promotion prior to the current 2024 Paris Olympics as he earned the right to be the next head coach of the Nets. For a Brooklyn team that went from competing for a playoff spot to going into a full rebuild, Fernandez now gets to fully lean into his player development skill set.

“The expectations are to get better every day, to be connected, and to do what’s best for the team,” Fernandez said recently to the media prior to his commitment to be the head coach for the Canadian National Men’s Basketball Team. He has essentially been pulling double duty as he has also been keeping an eye on how his Nets players are developing at this time as well.

“If we do that every single day, we’re going to be fine,” Fernandez explained. “I need everybody in the organization to understand that it’s not something you say one day. You’ve got to put the work into it. I think so far our guys have been amazing. For eight weeks, they’ve been working really hard.”

Fernandez appears to be ready for the opportunity to lead a fairly-young roster through a rebuild in which their development will be paramount to the future of the organization. While he is currently trying to lead Canada to a gold medal in the Olympics, he is also keeping in mind his goal to make every player on the Nets better as well.
