At least 11 people were shot across New York City in the 12 hours between Monday afternoon and early Tuesday morning.
Three of the shootings were less than an hour apart in Brooklyn overnight. They do not appear connected.
In Brooklyn, a 21-year-old man was shot in the hand on Crooke Avenue in Flatbush just before 1 a.m. Then, in Brownsville around 1:20 a.m., two people were shot.
In that shooting, a 64-year-old man was shot in the leg, and a 35-year-old man was shot multiple times. Nearly 20 minutes later on Rochester Avenue in Crown Heights, a 43-year-old woman was shot once in the leg.
All four people were taken to area hospitals and were said to be stable. No arrests have been made in any of those shootings.
Shortly before 4 p.m., three people in Brooklyn, a 16-year-old, 18-year-old and 26-year-old, were shot in front of 1154 Nostrand Avenue in Prospect Lefferts Gardens. All three victims were taken to Kings County Hospital and are expected to survive.
In the Bronx, two women were among the victims of gun violence in the Morrisania section around 7:30 p.m.. A 29-year-old was shot in the thigh and a 28-year-old was hit in the right leg and arm. Both women were taken to Lincoln Hospital and are recovering. Two men - ages 25 year old and 19 - in custody with charges pending.
Both of the shootings appeared targeted.
Also in the Bronx, 39-year-old Roman Martinez was shot and killed near 176th Street and Mohegan Avenue. He was shot multiple times in the head and declared dead at the scene. He was identified by family as a maintenance worker from Puerto Rico. No arrests have been made.
And the latest victim, a 24-year-old man, was shot in the neck just after 3:15 a.m. Tuesday in East Harlem near 235 96th Street. He was taken to the hospital and said to be recovering.
Despite the shootings, Mayor Eric Adams said Tuesday that the city is safe overall, citing statistics.
"Six straight months of crime down in our streets and crime down overall year to date, six straight months, that's my narrative of six straight months decrease in crime is turning into a narrative of hey, the city is out of control, what are we basing that on, the city is the safest big city in America," Adams said.
