CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn (PIX11) — A man was arrested in the shooting death of a 13-year-old boy who was gunned down in Brooklyn on his way home from a Nets game in February, police said Tuesday.

Sheik Koureichi, 20, was arrested Monday and charged with murder and criminal possession of a weapon in the killing of Troy Gill in what investigators believe was a gang-related hit on Feb. 29, according to the NYPD. It was unclear if Koureichi was the shooter.

Koureichi and another unidentified suspect were indicted in the murder case, but the second suspect has not been arrested yet, according to court documents.

Investigators said Gill was a member of the Drench Gang and was targeted after a 20-year-old member of a rival gang was attacked hours before the teen attended the Nets game on the night he was killed, according to NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny. It was unclear if Gill, who had a Drench Gang tattoo, was involved in the incident.

The teen was shot four times near New York Avenue and Bergen Street outside Brower Park in Crown Heights at around 10:30 p.m., authorities said. He was struck in the chest, back, and twice in the arm before he FaceTimed his mom as he was running down the block, police said.

Gill was just a couple blocks from home and his family rushed out to search for him after the heartbreaking call, authorities said. The teen was then found on the sidewalk by a passerby walking his dog.

The boy was unable to speak when officers got to the scene. Cops tried to save him before he was rushed to the hospital, where he died.

The teen also called his mom from the Nets game and from an Uber, which his mom did not send him, police said. It was unclear who ordered the rideshare.

During the investigation, police identified a white jeep that two suspects rented in Philadelphia. The suspects fired eight shots at Gill, police said.

Koureichi has had several prior arrests for criminal possession of a weapon, grand larceny, and reckless endangerment, police said. In the grand larceny case, Koureichi was part of a crew that allegedly stole a 21-year-old man’s car in Queens last month, according to the NYPD.

Koureichi pleaded not guilty during his arraignment in the murder case and is being held without bail, according to court records.
