Both Maranatha Christian Academy and Breck saw their softball teams conclude their seasons last week in the Section 5AA tournament.

    Maranatha Christian Academy

Fourth seed Maranatha softball took a strong first step forward last week to begin the Section 5AA tournament, beating 13th seed Maple Lake 5-1 on May 20 at home. Maranatha senior Ellie Meissner starred in the win, recording her 100th career hit in the win over Maple Lake.

The result pitted the Mustangs against fifth seed Glencoe-Silver Lake in the second round, where Maranatha faced a narrow 3-2 loss. This moved them to the first round of the elimination bracket against ninth seed Southwest Christian. A shock 6-5 win for Southwest Christian concluded Maranatha’s season there and then. The Mustangs end the spring with a 13-7 overall record and a conference championship to their name.

    Breck

12th seed Breck concluded their Section 5AA tournament with a 10-0 loss on May 20 to Glencoe-Silver Lake. Breck concluded the season with a 4-10 overall record, having picked up two key wins in the final weeks of the regular season with wins over Blake and St. Croix Prep in a double header on May 14.

Breck managed to reach those high points without seniors on the team. With a roster full of eight freshmen, three sophomores, and six juniors, the Mustangs will have the chance to return an experienced squad for the 2025 varsity season.
