Both Park Center and Prairie Seeds Academy concluded their 2024 boys volleyball seasons last week in the conference playoffs, while several other area schools ended their seasons the week prior. It brought an exciting chapter in the local history of boys volleyball to a close.

    Park Center

Park Center took part in the first round of the playoffs for the North Conference, facing Coon Rapids in a 3-0 loss to conclude the Pirates’ season. Park Center’s team did impress during the regular season with a 7-3 conference record, 12-8-2 overall. The North Conference was highly competitive this season and featured strong mid-standings teams along with a powerful Spring Lake Park side that went 10-0 in conference play and 21-3 overall.

    Prairie Seeds

Prairie Seeds Academy also took part in the playoffs for boys volleyball, facing a tough 3-0 loss in the first round for their conference against St. Michael-Albertville. The loss concludes an impressive overall year for the school amid a Northwest Conference packed with strong schools like Maple Grove, Wayzata, and Rogers. Prairie Seeds finished with a 5-5 conference record, 8-6 overall, in sixth place.

    Regular season

Armstrong and Cooper both helped make up the middle of the standings for the Northwest Conference, finishing just below Prairie Seeds and narrowly missing a spot in the playoffs. Armstrong went 4-6 in conference and 10-8-1 overall, while Cooper went 3-7 in conference, 3-10 overall.

Cooper ended the year with an impressive three-win run against Buffalo, St. Cloud Tech, and Osseo.

Champlin Park and Brooklyn Center both ended their seasons in the North Conference below the playoff line, but both went on journeys of growth this season. The Rebels, 3-7 in conference and 7-13 overall, were not far from a low-seed spot in the playoffs and showed talent throughout the season.

The Centaurs went winless this season, but the team worked hard with a young group that included many new players and a first-time head coach in Michael Vang. Brooklyn Center earned set wins this season and were close to victory on a few occasions.

The Breck School also went winless this season in the Metro Conference, which featured three separate 9-1 teams to tie for first in the standings (Washburn, Roseville and St. Anthony). That program was similarly new with many first-time players.

Boys volleyball was considered an emerging sport in 2023-24 by the Minnesota State High School League and operated under the direction of the Minnesota Boys Volleyball Association. It will become an interscholastic sport beginning with the 2024-2025 school year.
