A man was shot and wounded by a Brooklyn Park police officer early Sunday morning during an incident that happened after law enforcement responded to a call of a baby not breathing.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is investigating, which is standard for officer-involved shooting.

The original call came at 4:00 a.m. on the 8700 block of Queen Gardens North, and it was there that officers found a seven-month-old child in critical condition.

The baby died after being taken to a local hospital.

According to police, nearly an hour later their officers were met at the scene by what was identified in a press release as “an adult male with a gun.”

One of the officers shot the man, who was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive.

Information in a press release did not include what, if anything, led to the officer firing at the man.

Brooklyn Park police say the officers who responded to the original call were wearing body cameras that were activated at the time of the shooting and captured images of the incident.

During the early stages of the investigation, a gun was found at the scene.
