A shot was fired on Sunday evening in Brooklyn Park as police were searching for a runaway child.

Officers were called at approximately 9 p.m. to help locate the runaway in the 5900 block of Garwood Rd. However as they were searching, a resident thought someone was attempting to break into his home and fired a shot in the air, saying he was trying to defend his family.

The man who fired the shot has cooperated with police, and while the case was sent to the county attorney for consideration of charges, no arrests have been made.
