New wave band Haircut One Hundred (also often stylized as Haircut 100, sometimes in the same press release) have made their first new album with original singer/songwriter Nick Heyward, who wrote all their early-’80s hits, in 42 years. Details on that are still to be announced, but today they share its first single, “The Unloving Plum.” With a blast of breezy horns, they’re back, and “The Unloving Plum” finds Heyward still a master of easy pop melodies and clever turns of phrase. It’s a little more in line with his jangly solo work than the tropical funk of “Favourite Shirt” or “Love Plus 100.” Listen below.

When Jeff Rosenstock announced his “potentially infinite” residency at Brooklyn’s Warsaw back in May, he said as long as it kept selling out, he’d keep adding more shows. The residency ended up extending to seven shows and it began last week, with all shows sold out except night seven, which happens Thursday (8/29) with JER. Well, that show just finally sold out yesterday, so Jeff has kept his promise and he added an eighth show happening Friday (8/30) at Warsaw with support from AJJ (playing in the classic duo form of Sean Bonnette and Ben Gallaty that they had way back in the day). Pennsylvania grungegaze vets Superheaven had a surprise resurgence when their 2013 deep cut “Youngest Daughter” went viral on TikTok and shot up to their most played song on streaming services, and they’re continuing to leave an impact outside of their usual circle. Portland rage-rapper Yeat and his frequent producer BNYX sampled “Youngest Daughter” for their new single, “Go Again.” It kicks off with a manipulated clip of the iconic track, then the trap beats and the gurgled bars come in.
