Longtime Downtown Waterville Store Slated to Close Later This Month
For the last decade or so, many Central Maine residents have become familiar with the Re-Store. It's indeed a store, operated by Waterville Area Habitat for Humanity. Since its inception, the store has sold various pre-loved home-goods and building materials to the general public. The store, which has served the community well in its mission to provide affordable alternatives to brand-new (more expensive) merchandise, will be closing its doors later this month, the Kennebec Journal reported.
YMCA recognizes community at anniversary event
BAR HARBOR — The Mount Desert Island community came out to celebrate the YMCA’s 125th Anniversary at a gala event last Thursday at The Bar Harbor Club. The gathering began with cocktails and a silent auction on the terrace and a curated display by the Bar Harbor Historical Society of MDI YMCA memorabilia, then moved to a buffet dinner interspersed with insights from guest speakers, reflections by the YMCA’s award recipients and a paddle raise to support a few of the Y’s programs, most notably the new endowment MacLeod Fund, to support free swim lessons and water safety for all five-year-old children and scholarship for summer day camp.
