Trenton announces third annual Butterfly Festival on July 13
TRENTON — A pollinator parade, a raffle, children’s activities, live monarch butterflies and educational stations will be at the third annual Butterfly Festival on July 13 from 3-5 p.m. hosted by Trenton Butterfly Gardens. The festival will take place at the fire pond behind the Trenton Town Office. (The rain date is July 20.) Participants of all ages are encouraged to dress up in their best pollinator costumes and march in a colorful procession during a day of activities celebrating these beautiful and important pollinators.

(Lincolnville) A body found in Lincolnville last week has been identified as that of a missing Union man. The Pen Bay Pilot reported the body was discovered last week, and had apparently washed up just north of Lincolnville Beach. Authorities say the body was that of 30 yo Jonah Farley, who was reported missing to the Knox County Sheriff’s Office on May 18th. More information was not readily available.
Waldo County Technical Center honors graduates of 2024
Waldo County Technical Center (WCTC) honored the success of all students and awarded scholarships and Toolships to graduating seniors at its annual Recognition and Awards Night on May 29. The event was held at the Crosby Center in Belfast. Many WCTC programs presented Outstanding Student and Most Improved Student Awards.

Thirty-five years ago something was buried in an overgrown field. And (mostly) forgotten. Except by the 14 who were there. And maybe their teachers. It was 1989 and social studies teacher Laurie Pendleton had an idea for her eighth grade class, which was likely a bit challenging to teach in that final spring of their time at Lincolnville Central School. She would have her students create a time capsule, a galvanized trash can full of artifacts from the late 1980s.

OPAL, a local Belfast architectural firm and leader in sustainable design and environmental stewardship, said June 10 that it has earned national recognition for the design of Bar Harbor academic building. The Davis Center for Human Ecology at College of the Atlantic in Bar Harbor has received the AIA National Architecture Award — the highest level of recognition possible for a specific project from the American Institute of Architects.

(Undated) – Town clerks report very light absentee balloting as state primary day is tomorrow. Balloting runs from 8am to 8pm in most municipalities. In several communities the primary election coincides with local elections. Bar Harbor will elect a pair of town councilors from among six on the ballot. Ellsworth and the RSU 24 towns will decide on whether the adopted school budget should be validated as well as a couple of changes to the Ellsworth city charter. There are races on Republican ballots for both Congressional districts – the winner will appear on the November general election ballot to face Democrat Jared Golden. One Hancock County County Commissioner district will decide which Republican, Bill Clark or Earl Bierman, will appear on the November ballot to face Democrat Rebecca Wentworth who is unopposed.
