Broome County political party leaders weighed in Sunday after President Joe Biden's announcement that he is dropping out of the 2024 presidential race. The departure comes after weeks of scrutiny surrounding Biden's mental fitness and mounting pressure from lawmakers calling for him to end his bid for reelection. Biden also posted his announcement to endorse Vice President Kamala Harris on Sunday.
Two Charged After Drugs Seized in Binghamton
The Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force says two people are arrested and charged after drugs were found in a Binghamton apartment earlier this week. The Task Force executed a search warrant in a second-floor apartment at 11 Truesdell Street in Binghamton on Wednesday. Fentanyl, cocaine, meth, money, and paraphernalia were all found. Wanted Fugitive Captured in Union
The Broome County Sheriff's Office says one of the top five most wanted fugitives in the county was arrested Friday morning in the Town of Union. According to the office, 42-year-old Matthew Knapp of Kirkwood was located by the U.S. Regional Fugitive Task Force in an apartment on Squires Avenue without incident. Knapp had been on the run for the last two months after the office says he absconded from probation for a Sex Offender Registration Violation in mid-May. He failed to update his address with the state's Sex Offender Registry after the violation of probation warrant was issued, and an additional warrant was issued for Failure to Register Under the Sex Offender Registration Act (Second Offense).
