Sheriff: Kansas felon jailed after drug bust at home
BROWN COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a Kansas felon on new allegations after a drug bust at a Kansas home. Just before 8:30p.m. June 26, a search warrant was conducted by the Brown County Sheriffs Office Drug Task Force at 315 W. 12th Street in Horton, according to Sheriff John Merchant.
Suspicious vehicle report leads to arrest for possessing meth
A Marysville man was arrested for possessing meth after a suspicious vehicle report on Saturday, June 29, according to a report by Brown County Sheriff John Merchant. According to the report at approximately 9 p.m., both Sac and Fox Police Department and Brown County Sheriff’s Office “investigated a suspicious vehicle which was disabled in the vicinity of 320th and Kestrel Road.” K-9 Carla searched through the vehicle and after an investigation, Robert Hendricks, 64, of Marysville--the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle--was arrested “on charges of Possession of Meth, Felony Distribution of Meth, No Drug Tax Stamp, Possession of Marijuana and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.”
Pyle: Kelly to hold ceremonial signings in Brown and Jackson counties
(KNZA)--Kansas Governor Laura Kelly will visit Brown County Tuesday, holding a ceremonial signing in Hiawatha prior to doing the same in Jackson County, in the City of Holton. That word is delivered in an announcement from State Senator Dennis Pyle, with the rural Hiawatha Republican, in the release, saying the ceremonial signing is for Senate Bill 1, the billion dollar tax relief package passed during the Kansas Legislature's June 18 one day special session.

Brown County Genealogical Society Meets on June 20
The June 20, 2024 Brown County Genealogical Society meeting was opened by President Ray Thieme, with 17 members and guests present. Sharon Pontious presented the second half of her interesting program on Hiawatha Descendants of the Mayflower. Her program followed the Mayflower’s journey to America and the passengers’ life at Plymouth. Attending the meeting were the following Hiawatha residents who are descended from the Mayflower passengers: Sharon’s ancestor was William Brewster; Steve James’ ancestor was also William Brewster; and Jane Bebermeyer’s ancestor was Richard Warren.
