Garfield Heights, OH. It's been a long and painful road for Pamela Poindexter-Crews, Cameron Crews's mom. Cameron was killed on August 7, 2022, when a driver of a stolen vehicle slammed into his car as he and his girlfriend waited at a stoplight waiting for the light to change. According to earlier reports, Cameron's vehicle was hit before he could move. The incident and tragic death were the result of a high-speed police chase led by Garfield Heights Police.

"It's been some time, and we don't have answers. The detective appears not to have any new information. We have not spoken to the prosecutors - we never received a call from them or anyone from the Mayor's office. All we know is - all we have been told is that the camera in front of the building where the accident occurred was said to be fuzzy. It's been a long time, and we have not received any communications from the City Garfield Heights Law Department. We want answers - communication of what's going on," says Mrs. Poindexter-Crews.

The high-speed chase occurred near Turney Road and Grand Division. The police were said to be chasing a person driving a stolen vehicle. After the crash, the passenger(s) are said to have jumped from the stolen vehicle and ran. Cameron's girlfriend, Tyisha Koroma, stated that people helped her from Cameron's vehicle. She stated, "I know people were standing outside that night. After everything happened, I remember they got me out of the car, and I stood on the sidewalk. I remember people being outside and looking out the windows," Koroma reported to Newsnet TV 5 in August 2022.

Brown on Cleveland - we submitted three public records requests to the Garfield Heights Police Chief, the Law Director, and the Garfield Heights City Prosecutors to get the case status. The City has yet to respond to our request. In February of 2023, Newsnet TV 5 requested information from Garfield Heights; they, too, were put on hold.

    We are requesting:

    • A copy of the police report on Cameron Crews, killed in the City of Garfield during a police chase
    • Copy of Garfield Height Police Chase Policy
    • A list of officers involved in this chase
    • Copy of the current status of the Cameron Crews case
    • Copy of any communications between Garfield Heights prosecutor's office and Cuyahoga County prosecutor's office under the direction of Michael O'Malley permissible by law regarding the Cameron Crews case and investigation.

We will give the City until the end of the month to respond to our request before we submit an official complaint to the State of Ohio for possible Sunshine Law Violation.

The family has a right to know the status of this case. If nothing else, Garfield Heights City Officials, the Police Department, and the Law Department should want to comfort the family.

Garfield Heights website states that the City of Garfield Heights is "A Caring Community."
