Cleveland, OH. - The Women's Commission of Education of Training, a not-for-profit organization, along with the Black Women Commission of Cuyahoga County, held its annual women's conference, "Sisters in Strength Power Zone Evening Brunch," on Monday, September 9, 2024, at the Flava Southern Cuisine Restaurant in Garfield Heights, Ohio.

Trustee Kiana Belcher of Dolton, Illinois, was the keynote speaker in a sold-out venue. Women throughout the region made their way to hear Belcher's words of empowerment and enjoy an evening of relaxation, music, pampering, and great food. "When I was invited to come to Ohio by the ladies, I did not know what to expect or what message to deliver. I wanted to let them know that we have - as women empower one another and continue to uplift each other through trials, tribulations, and our most difficult times. I did not know what to expect, so I decided to speak from personal experience of being an elected official, professional, mother, and foster mom," Belcher told the crowded room filled with women.

Trustee Belcher is from Dolton, Illinois. Dolton is said to be the most controversial city in the United States. Media outlets blame this stigma on Dolton's current Mayor, Tiffany Henyard. Henyard is considered to be the worst Mayor in America.

"Regardless of how outsiders view Dolton, our city will move forward. Yes, we have controversy, but through all of that, here is what's happening: residents are more involved in city government, and they are watching the village, asking questions, and holding us accountable. So, what is deemed negative has become positive -challenging times for us. We will get through this successfully. I will continue to stay focused on our community and the people's will. All I can say is always move forward; you have to move forward for what you believe," says Trustee Belcher.

Other speakers at the event included Mayor Matt Burke of Garfield Heights. Burke gave a proclamation to the organizations, President Renee Williams-Jackson of the National Congress of Black Women Greater Cleveland Chapter, Kimberly Brown, President of the BWCCC, and Annette Blackwell, Mayor of Maple Heights, who is also the President and Co-founder of WCET.
