Misty Dyer, age 38 of Burkesville, Kentucky passed away on Thursday, August 29, 2024 at her home. Misty was born on January 01, 1986 in Cumberland County Kentucky to Raymond and Thelma Wilson Dyer. She was a graduate of Cumberland County High School and a member of Living Word Ministries. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by one brother James Thomas Dyer.

Mr. Alfred Preston Pittman Jr. of Albany, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, August 29, 2024, at Med Center Health in Bowling Green, Kentucky, having attained the age of 79 years, 5 months, and 14 days. He was born in Albany, Kentucky on Thursday, March 15, 1945, the son of Alfred Preston and Lily Beatrice (Byrd) Pittman. He was a Christian and a farmer. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and hanging out with his friends. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son, Kelly Pittman, and a brother-in-law, Randall Vance.

CELINA-Clay County Schools recently received good news, as they learned they had been awarded a grant for extended learning, along with a partnership with Soles4Souls. The Tennessee Department of Education Extended Learning Program announced the FY25/Cohort 24 Nita M. Lowey 21st Century Community Learning Center (21st CCLC) application submitted by the local school system had been approved to fund before and after-school programs here at Celina K-8 School.

Wayne County Man Arrested for Drug Trafficking
According to Wayne County Sheriff Tim Catron a Monticello man has been arrested for drug trafficking. On August 28, 2024, at approximately 9 pm Deputy Brad Tucker observed the man operating a vehicle on Kentucky Highway 90 which was known to him as having an active arrest warrant. While Deputy Tucker was attempting to initiate a traffic stop the man continued a short distance while shifting around inside his vehicle in a suspicious manner. Once stopped while Deputy Tucker was advising the operator the reason for the stop, Deputy Jerry Coffey observed a crystal substance laying in plain view inside the vehicle. A continued search resulted in a small bag of marijuana and $1,246.00 in cash being seized.

Yesterday the local mesonet weather recording station located in the Parnell community recorded a temperature of 95 degrees which was the hottest recorded so far this year, with the heat index at 101 degrees. July 14th had the previous hottest temperature at 94.9 with July 15th at 94.8 degrees. Today’s forecast calls for a high of 96 with a heat index at 103. William Clyde Smith, age 95, husband of Patricia Burkhart Smith, passed away Wednesday, August 28, 2024, at his home. In addition to his wife, he is survived by: daughter, Patsy (Michael) Blevins, sons, Donnie (Charlotte) East, Tony (Melissa) East, Johnny (Kim) East, Rocky East, and son-in-law, Mike Martin, 14 grandchildren, 21 grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren, sister, Virginia Smith Green, brother Lawrence (Jayne) Smith, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
