CCSO: Two arrested for stealing phone with cheating proof

BROWNSVILLE, Texas ( ValleyCentral ) — Cameron County Sheriff’s deputies arrested two women who they say participated in an aggravated robbery.

At approximately 9:55 p.m. on June 25, deputies responded to the 2300 block of Magdalena Avenue in Brownsville in reference to an aggravated robbery.

Upon arrival, deputies learned that the victim had been robbed of his cell phone at gunpoint by two men.

One of the suspects had placed a handgun to the victim’s head while demanding his cell phone. The same suspect then discharged his firearm once towards the ground to scare the victim into complying. Both men then took the victim’s phone and left the area.

The men were later identified as Juan Carlos Macias and Brian Rodriguez. Macias was arrested the same day and Rodriguez was arrested on June 27.

On June 29, investigators learned that both suspects had been hired to steal the cell phone in question by a woman identified as Angelica Reyes, 47, who wanted the phone due to it containing proof of her infidelities.

Reyes had agreed to pay Rodriguez $100 for the cell phone. After Rodriguez and Macias were arrested, Rodriguez’s sister Jade Urenda, 21, contacted Reyes to demand the $100 payment owed to her brother.

Reyes paid Urenda the $100 owed to Rodriguez for stealing the cell phone.

Arrest warrants were obtained and both women were placed under arrest for their participation. Both were charged with aggravated robbery, a 1st Degree Felony and engaging in organized crime, a 1st Degree Felony.
