    Brownville bridge shut down after failed inspection

    BROWNVILLE, N.Y. (WWTI) – The Brownville Bridge on Paddy Hill has been closed off to traffic after until further notice failing an inspection on Friday afternoon.

    A new bridge that’s further down the river won’t be open until October. That project has a price tag of around $12 million. This bridge will be closer to the Watertown International Airport.

    New York State’s Department of Transportation DOT Region 7 Director Ken Bibbins released a statement saying “Safety is our number one priority at NYSDOT and we will keep the public informed on the progress of this project as we get closer to the finish line. “

    The Town of Brownville Joint Fire District Facebook page released a statement regarding fire coverage, “The Town of Brownville Fire District has put mutual aid plans in place to ensure that our residents and coverage areas will still get the adequate and prompt responses needed for all calls for service.

    Drivers will now have to drive through the villages of Dexter or Glen Park to get to and from Watertown with the bridge being closed to traffic.
