Report: Brownwood man sustains serious self-inflicted injuries while fleeing from police

BROWNWOOD, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – A Brownwood man sustained serious self-inflicted injuries while fleeing from police.

Geronimo Franklin Mendieta was rushed to the hospital following an altercation that began near the Texas Parole Office on the 900 block of Main Street around 1:20 p.m. Monday.

A report from the Brownwood Police Department states officers attempted to contacted Mendieta at the office after receiving a report he was there and was wanted.

Mendieta then fled on foot and instead of complying with officers, he got a box cutter and began to harm himself, causing severe injuries.

Officers eventually subdued Mendieta with bean bag guns and he was hospitalized, where he remains in unknown condition.

Texas Rangers are now assisting Brownwood police with this investigation. No further information is available at this time.
