BROWN COUNTY, Texas ( KTAB/KRBC ) – Family members have identified a Brownwood High School cheerleader killed in a rollover wreck Thursday night.

Serenity Da’Nae New, 16, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash on County road 225 just after 8:00 p.m. Two other teen girls, one 16 and one 17, were injured.

A press release from the Texas Department of Public Safety states a vehicle carrying the three teens was traveling south, “at a high rate of speed and unsafe for the roadway conditions.”

The driver, identified only as a 16-year-old female, then lost control, sending the vehicle into a side skid before it rolled over multiple times then came to a stop on its wheels.

Both the driver and a 17-year-old female passenger sustained non-life-threatening injuries, and New, who was also a passenger, was pronounced dead at the scene.

New was a varsity cheerleader for the Brownwood Lions, and her brother plays on the football team.

No further information is available at this time.
