BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — As the hot summer drifts away, there’s a perfect experience for those still wanting outdoor fun.

For this week’s Destination Louisiane, we take you to explore Baton Rouge’s Geaux Ride which allows you to explore popular spots and landmarks on a glow-in-the-dark bicycle.

Geaux Ride, located in downtown Baton Rouge, is a family-friendly experience where you can enjoy guided adventure tours, events and, most importantly, an activity to get you moving.

Owner of Geaux Ride Charles Daniel is a former data analyst who was living in New Orleans and found a love for cycling. Daniel had the idea to bring that passion to his hometown and help fill a gap.

“I wanted to do something to actually change the narrative of the city that I live in. A lot of things with crime and a lot of the negatives that we hear, it’s only because there’s not enough people working to change that narrative,” he said.

He’s working to change that story by giving bike tours to those in the community.

“Our tours are primarily structured near downtown Baton Rouge. Downtown is a beautiful scene. It’s very underutilized at night. There are some restaurants and bars, but I wanted to give people an outlet outside of eating and drinking,” he said.

Tours include aesthetically pleasing scenery and landmarks like the state capital and the governor’s mansion. Although many people like what the tours offer, Daniel said a big goal behind the experience is to improve health and wellness.

“It’s not just a business. I wanted to come here, really be a pillar of health and wellness here and create change within the community where people want to be healthy,” he said.

Bike rides can be conducted throughout the day, but the after-dark rides with light-up bikes are popular.

“We open up at 7 p.m., we close at midnight, and then 2 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays,” he said. “We have the Bluetooth speaker, we have the glow-in-the-dark accessories. So it makes it a fun atmosphere.”

For those concerned about safety and nighttime rides, Daniel ensures that the experience is safe and that downtown Baton Rouge has a high law enforcement presence.

Geaux Ride even offers some free rides and activity opportunities for those on a budget.

“Right now, we have a free community ride every Thursday. So you register online,” he said. “We ride from here to Electric Depot. We make a stop at KOK Wings. We’ve been partnering with Red Stick Social. They have free bowling. So, just getting everyone outside.”

Regular pricing starts at $10 for 30 minutes, $20 for an hour. That’s a self-guided bike rental. There are also guided tours, said Daniel.

“We have two options, there’s a $20 tour where we go to different venues in downtown that work for 90 minutes or $30 for a guided tour led with music, with tour guides, safety guides,” he said.

Geaux Ride is open daily, takes walk-ins and sets appointments if you’re interested in riding during the day or night.
