ST. FRANCISVILLE, La. (BRPROUD) – The fall Angola Prison Rodeo is back and taking place each Sunday in October. The rodeo events are scheduled for Oct. 6, 13, 20 and 27.

The Louisiana State Penitentiary is located at the end of Highway 66, approximately 22 miles northwest of St. Francisville. Tickets are available online for $20.

Attendees will get the chance to see what’s been described as the wildest rodeo show in the South. Angola inmate cowboys will compete in events such as Wild Cow Milking, Bull Riding, Convict Poker and Guts-n-Glory, according to the Louisiana Department of Public Safety and Corrections.

The annual event is more than just a rodeo. Gates open at 8 a.m., and guests will hear inmate bands, try different foods and be able to shop for prisoner-made arts and crafts.

SugarFest in West Baton Rouge Parish has sugar cane demonstrations, live music, rum tasting

There will also be pony rides, an antique carousel, carnival games and more for children.

The rodeo begins at 1 p.m.
